AmPro Yamaha Team Comes Up Big Again in GNNC Round 7 Somerset, PA

May 17, 2010 | SOMERSET, PA | AMPRO TEAM
AmPro Yamaha Manager Randy Hawkins hailed his squad after another first rate weekend in GNCC’s 7th race at Mountain Ridge on Sunday. The result was a one-sided event dominated by AmPro Yamaha team, scoring a 1st place finish by Charlie Mullins, 3rd Place by Barry Hawk Jr. and 4th Place by Paul Whibley-equaling 5 top finishes and surpassing their biggest win streak ahead of an impressive 2009 season.

"These racers are motivated, hard working, committed and determined to do well despite the challenges ahead.” Triumphant AmPro Yamaha Racer Charlie Mullins was not going to rest on his laurels and was determined to continue winning for his side after guiding the AmPro Team to wins in GNCC’s 5th and 6th races. The AmPro Racer focused on the basics all week, then responded with another monster race. Mullins battered the Mountain Ridge course relentlessly, increasing his overall point total with 168 and trimming the pts behind total to power the AmPro Yamaha Team to a victory Sunday afternoon. Mullins raced smart with careful technique in a muddy and wet course, passing Barry, Kanny, and Buttrick for the remaining 2 laps. The win sliced Josh Strang’s lead in the GNNC Series to just 3 points.

Meanwhile Barry Hawk Jr., riding with much grit and determination behind his favorable Somerset crowd, found great form and blasted into a top 3rd place finish on a tough day of racing. Hawk Jr., who managed to elude a podium finish all season, raced intensely through muddy holes and unstable rocks, all the while battling through some serious competition between Kanney and Buttrick. The trio swapped several lead changes throughout the race with Buttrick surpassing Hawk in the last lap.

"I just went out there and had fun," Hawk Jr. said, "my focus, my lack of mistakes. That's one of the reasons I've persevered through the season and continue to try to improve every race. My enjoyment for racing is at an all-time high."

Paul Whibley finished 4th for the AmPro Yamaha team, and continued to show his solid performances. With Ampro Yamaha’s strong races, they have quieted suggestions about an early Strang championship. Mullins and Whibley can pull even closer in the GNCC series with a victory at the upcoming Wiseco John Penton Race.
